narrative

To be given the chance to play little league was one of the greatest times of my life. I played little league for four years, and every year I made the all-star team. My best friend and I played on every regular season team and every all-star team together. The final game of our career was unforgettable.

It had been 4 years of great enjoyment with my best friend, Cody Smith. We always clowned around in practice, but when the game would start we had a high intensity. Cody would pitch, and I would play second base. When he wasn't pitching, I would, and he would play third base. We were the top players in little league, or so we thought.

Our all-star team had made it to the championship of our state tournament. Before our team took the field our coach John Zamouski gave us a talk. He said, "Well men, we've came a long way. Today's the day we've all practiced so hard for, but I want to have fun with it. Lets treat this like every other game we have won. You're all winners, win or lose. I want you all to know that I feel privileged to have coached such a fine bunch of men. So lets go out and play this game as hard as you can. What do you say, lets go have FUN." We all got up and yelled, "YEA." "Let's play hard." "Yea" As we all got more pumped up. "Who are we?" "N.I." As we got more loud and more intense. Coach said, "Bring it in. Win on . One, two, three" as we all yelled together "WIN."

As I ran on to that field I recalled all the practicing I had done, and I knew I owed most of it to my father. He started me throwing and hitting when I was about four-years-old. As my passion grew more and more I wanted to go practice all the time. So I would ask my father to practice with me. Even though my father was tired or in the middle of a good TV show he would practice with me. I remembered my father sitting on an old milk crate while I pitched to him. This made me chuckle a little because I would throw a low wild pitch on accident that would hit him in the legs, but he kept positive.

Cody was pitching a hitter and I was playing well too. The score kept going back and forth. There were a lot of errors because the field was all dirt and felt like concrete, the ball was taking bounces I had never seen before. The final inning came around and we were down by 1 run with outs when I came to bat. There was no one on base and the pitcher had strikes on me. The next pitch seemed like it took forever. The pitcher pitched the ball right down the middle of the plate. I waited on the ball and hit a screaming line drive into left-center for a stand up double. Then Cody came up and hit the first pitch for a -run homerun for us to take the lead by 1. The next batter grounded out to end the inning, but the damage had already been done. We took the field and Cody was still pitching. The first batter hit a double and then stole to advance to third base. Cody then struck out the next two batters. Their were two outs and a runner on third base. Before Cody pitched that next ball I knew every player on our team told themselves that they would do whatever it took to get that next out. So when the ball was pitched and hit to me I was determined to get the out. The ground ball took a bad bounce and hit me square in the ribs. I picked up the ball, which was to the left of me. I spun around and threw that ball with all my power to first base. The ball reached the first basemen's mitt a half step before the runner made it to the base for the third out and the championship.

Getting the chance to play with my best friend and winning the state championship was everything I had ever wanted then. Having such a great and inspiring coach made me feel proud to have won the championship for our coach. As for my father, I know he was proud, and I was grateful for all the time and effort he had spent with me. I know I will remember my final game, and all the people that made my little league career so great for the rest of my life.

Reality Is Perception

Human reality is full of physical objects but how humans perceive these objects is completely objective, depending on the person and their senses. Perception of physical objects cannot occur without other objects that allow one to perceive these manifestations in the first place. When a sentient being acknowledges that they exist in a world of physical objects, they also confirm that their sense perception functions to an extent that allows them to reason,

even to a small degree, their physical existence.

What is a physical object? Does a physical object have to be something you can see, touch, feel, taste, or smell or can a physical object exist without one being able to confirm its existence? Is the sensory perception of a fly wrong just because it has over 1000 eyes or is the way humans view the world incorrect because we do not? A blind man can still help a person distinguish a colour because no one perception is ever totally interpreted by only one sensory organ. Many other animals on earth do not just rely on there sight for

Custom Essays on Perception

information about their world. For instance fish in totally dark areas of the ocean have no eyes and yet can still maneuver around in there environment by sensing ripples in their area with special sense organs on their body. Birds also seem to use the magnetic lines of the earth to navigate south for the winter each year. It would be foolish to make the statement that all sensory perception of the world is circumspect and is exactly the same for all creatures.

All animals on the planet earth live in a hermeneutic spiral meaning that we all live in the past. Humans, as with other animals, can only sense a cause after it has made an effect. The assumption is made that if we sense an effect there must therefore be a cause, which leads to a naïve realism of perception. As well, with sensory perception there is a large amount of extraneous information such as emotional and ideological that causes interference as to how we interpret the information received. This misinterpretation can happen from the time an action is made to the time when we seem to perceive the action. This can be seen for instance when at a baseball game the batter bats a home run and only after a second or two you hear the crack of the bat on the ball. This can be explained because the speed of light which allows you to see the batter hitting the ball is much faster than the speed of sound. Of course there is always the chance that our sense organs can deceive us. For instance when the moon is on the horizon is looks a lot bigger than when it is seen high up in the sky. As for humans all perception is relative to the surroundings because for instance at night humans can see objects like trees, stars, etc. better when we look at these things at a an angle with the corner of our eyes. During the day however things are seen better when looking straight at them, this phenomenon has been explained with the use of rods/cones in our eyes. Rods are sensitive to dim light and are important in black/white vision and the detection of motion and are primarily located toward the corners of the eyes hence their value in night vision. Cones are responsible for colour vision and for the perception of bright images.

The average person expresses what he believes is perception; referred to

as naïve realism

1. I live in a world of physical objects.

. I know this through sense perception.

. Physical objects exist independently of my perception.

4. My claims about their reality are usually correct.

5. Sense impressions are caused by the objects.

Sense perception all comes down to being able to exist in a world we know

nothing about and understanding that certain actions will achieve certain goals.

As long as these goals are achievable through what we believe to be reality than

nothing else really matters. Therefore, perception that allows one to exist in

a world of physical objects is all that a person wanting to exist really needs.

Order your Gary's House ( Australian contemprary playright, Debra Oswald)- The Symbolic significance of the house paper at affordable prices!

The major setting of the play, 'Gary's House' is a house. It is rather symbolic on many different levels throughout the play, and in particular, for the characters.

The house holds quite importance to the character of Gary. For the character of Gary, it symbolises a new start and direction for his life. The house is a labour of love for his partner, Sue- Anne and his unborn child. Through building them a house, Gary tries to achieve the kind of life for his family that he feels he himself never had. Gary, who had lived in foster care throughout his childhood builds the house from his family so they would have a comfortable life, living in their own and feeling as if they have their own place in the world, unlike Gary, who in his childhood felt as if he didn't belong.

The house is also symbolic of life, change and the journeys taken by each of the characters. Through the play as the house develops, so too does the characters and they become even more vital independently in the play. As life, the house and the notion of building a house is symbolic of the great Australian dream that many people, throughout their lifetime try to achieve. The idea of the achieving the great Australian dream instils a great sense of bliss and prosperity within the characters and storyline. This is especially shown in Act 1 scene , page 1- where Gary holds a conversation with Sue - Anne about the house and says " Soon- and I'm not promising when, I'll put a verandah on 'round here'..." (Gary holds the gas lamp up to show their way).

This also shows the determination and pride that Gary feels towards building the house. When Sue- Anne leaves Gary, he sees no point to continue and takes his life in the very place where he was to achieve the "perfect" life. For Sue- Anne the house is just somewhere for the family to live and does not hold much significance, but for Gary's sister Christine, it provides the beginning of a new journey, especially after Gary commits suicide as she take it on to finish what he started, creating a home yet again for Sue- Anne and the baby. In Act two, scene ten, when Sue- Anne announces that she is moving to the city with Vince and the baby, Christine loses the plot and feels like she has wasted her time and feels completely let down and used. She takes to the house and begins to smash it to pieces. It is the way Christine vents her feelings of anger and frustration which has built up inside her.

On a technical level, the house provides the play with a central focus- something that remains constant and grows throughout. The setting of the house is where all the tension and atmosphere for the play is created- especially in the first scenes where a frustrated Sue- Anne tries to maul Gary with a chainsaw. The conflict is created because of and around the constant setting of the house.

The house provides the audience with a constant symbolic object throughout the play to which they can relate. Symbolically it is important as it is a vital aspect for the audience to grasp the true realities of the play and provides a visual idea where the audience can realise how significantly it is to providing the tension and conflict within the play, Gary's House

Jenn is a twenty-two year old who works as a lawyer. She is short, with blond hair, green eyes and blotchy skin. In the summer of 000 Jenn had just left work with a huge paycheck in her hand, the biggest paycheck ever, two thousand dollars. Jenn did not know what to do with that much money.

She wanted a new pet, something unusual. She had always wanted a chimpanzee. Jenn went online and looked up monkey prices and where she could purchase one.

Jenn then went to Tons-O-Pets and sure enough they had a Chimpanzee. She talked to the store clerk and picked out a baby female three months old. Jenn bought her for one thousand dollars and took her home. The chimp's name would be Destiny because it was always Jenn's destiny to have one.

When they arrived home Jenn put Destiny in a spare room with a bottle and the housesitter Linda, then Jenn left to go shopping at the store.

She returned home with diapers, potty training toilet, toys, food and leash with a collar. Jenn left Destiny with the housesitter once again, she went to sign up for American Sign Language classes so she and Destiny could communicate with each other. Destiny was potty trained, able to cook food , and could even drive. She loved to sit with Jenn and watch t.v.

Jenn had her boyfriend Mark come from Texas to meet Destiny. He taught Destiny to take showers and clean the house.

Destiny loved to go outside and play Hide-n-Seek and Ball with the neighborhood children. Mark practiced sign language with Destiny every night.

When Jenn came home from work one night she could not find Linda anywhere. She heard Destiny in the room howling very loudly. To Jenns surprise she had someone tied up in the sheets. Jenn thought it was Linda. She quickly threw Destiny off the object and looked in the sheets. It wasn't Linda. It was a man dressed in all black with a ski mask and gloves. Destiny signed to Jenn that the guy broke through the window and tried to rob them. No one knew where Linda was so she called the police, once more Destiny saved the day.

Jenn liked to take Destiny on walks around the neighborhood. People would get scared yet again they would fall in love with her.

Everyday when Jenn came home from work Destiny would beg to go out and play with the neighborhood children. She made friends with everyone. Destiny had a curfew and rules, she always abided by them all. Destiny always protected Jenn and the house.

Destiny was a very smart individual who loved to play computer, watch t.v. and cook. If there was something Destiny could not do Jenn taught her.

One day Jenn received a phone call from the Animal Sanctuary stating that they would buy Destiny for sixteen thousand dollars! Jenn explained that she loved Destiny as her own child and could not do it. Destiny was too smart and nice to sell for even a million dollars.

Three months later Mark moved in with Jenn. They settled down and got married. Since Linda disappeared , no one ever heard from her again they hired a new housesitter named Nina, She was partly deaf and knew sign language. Nina and Destiny communicated often.

Two years later Jenn was pregnant. As months went on Jenn had to keep checking up with the doctor, His name was Dr. Doogie Howser, he told Jenn the baby would have breathing problems and it would be best not to have a hairy chimpanzee in the house along with a newborn child.

Jenn went home and discussed this with Mark. Of course they would have to get rid of Destiny. Jenn didn't know what she would do, she didn't want to sell Destiny, on the other hand she did not want to get rid of her . Jenn was so depressed that she cried for two weeks straight, when she had to go back to Dr. Doogie Howser he told Jenn that she had a miscarriage and that it must have been from stress or depression.

Jenn was relieved that she would not have to get rid of Destiny.

Aging is a New Beginning

When thinking of death, what comes to my mind is whether or not there is everlasting life. Although I am Catholic and believe in heaven, I sometimes ponder if there really is a so-called "life after death". My own progression toward death involves a serious conflict in my mind. I still to this day find myself not in fear of dying, but in fear of how I will do in life before I die. Regardless of what I fear I look forward to happily growing old and someday peacefully reaching my demise.

When thinking of my evolution from a baby until now I cannot even fathom how much time I still have left. How many days I have to accomplish all of my goals in life. When I think of aging I start to picture myself as a father, even a grandfather, happily living as if there are no cares in the world.

As each day goes by, the realization that I am getting older only leads me to take initiative to

Quinn

accomplish my responsibilities. For example when one chooses to marry, they no longer are just supporting themselves they now support their spouse as well. Another example is when I am ready to have kids; the responsibility of raising children is drastically underestimated. I want to be the best father I can, which actually is the main fear in my life. The aspect of aging brings upon times when you need to really dig deep and find out what you are made of. So, in progressing towards old age I really hope I can fulfill my greatest goal of being a wonderful father.

Another detail that comes to mind with maturing is the realization that my career will have to support me for the rest of my life. Whether or not I like my job will no longer be an option, and the days of parental support are few and far between. The fact that I will not only be on my own, but supporting a family is a heavy burden, and monetary support is an aspect of aging constantly overlooked. In my progression I want to have a career where I like getting up in the morning and furthermore enjoy my job.

Quinn

Another idea that comes to mind with growing old is that fact that I will possibly begin to look in the mirror and see more wrinkles and less hair. I would not necessarily say I fear this but more I do not look forward to the physical aspects of aging. I also do not look forward to the bulging of my stomach or lack of mobility. Moreover I am scared of disease. The fact that one can die of diseases is what scares me the most about life. Not that I am scared to die, but the fact that life is short, and disease can make those days even fewer.

Is being "over the hill" really that bad? This is a question I once asked my father to find out if middle-age life actually gets that bad. His response re-assured me that life really is not fulfilled until you reach the point knowing you have raised your children. My father also told me to cherish my youth, so I also continue to stay a kid for a long as possible.

Besides physical, and emotional aging there is mental aging; the true time when what one learns in life comes into play. Think of the countless stories

Quinn 4

grandparents tell their grandkids, and think of how many times we think of our parents as the smartest people in the world. One day that will be me and I cannot wait to fill my grandchildren's heads with stories of my past. The reality that you grow smarter with age is something I am still naïve to see, but that is simply because I am a teenager and I guess have a need to be rebellious.

Moreover "live everyday as if it were your last". The fact that I am not scared to die is one of the reasons I am so happy, I live my life to the fullest because it's a fact of life that our days on earth are numbered. Whether or not I grow up to be successful and happy husband and father is what really motivates me. I want to someday to be bald and wrinkled and look back and say I made something of myself; at that point I will go wherever it is up there.

Do you consider something with a beating heart a living creature? A babies heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy, therefor, that would make abortion murder. The baby that is growing inside of you is depending on you, so when you make the choice to end that life, you are making the choice to murder another person.

Someone that believes in the pro-choice theory would say that the decision is up to the woman, but the person with the pro-life theory would say that it is murder no matter what the situation. Would you consider it murder to kill a baby the day after it is born? Then why would it not be murder to kill it before it is born? "If it is impossible to abort a baby in the ninth month, then what makes it ok to do in the fifth or sixth month." (Carl Sagan & Ann Druyan).

Many abortions are perormed each year in the United States. 75% of all abortions in the U.S. are performed on women over 0 years of age, but the lawmakers try to concentrate on the 186,000 teens that have an abortion each year. In 10, there were nearly 400 abortion bills were introduced to 41 legislatures. So far, as many as 0 states have passed laws that requires a teenager to have a parents consent before having an abortion. This may help reduce the number of abortions each year, the people that passed these bills feel that maybe the parents will feel differently about the situation and be able to talk their child out of it. 0% of teens that are sexually active do not use any form of birth control, these are the teens that end up getting pregnant and getting an abortion. If these girls would use some kind of contraceptive it could stop a lot of the abortions performed each year. If you think about it, it is so much easier to take a pill then it is to be pregnant and have to decide on the life of another person. When you feel that you are responsible enough to participate in sexual activity, you should also feel that you a resonsible enough to deal with the consequences that follow.

Abortions are considered "the easy was out." I feel that abortions are just selfish. There is no easy way out. I could not imagine living with the guilt of taking anothers life, especially the life of something that I created, and that is dependant of me. There are so many people out there that wish they had the chance to get pregnant. If you really feel that you are not ready to be a parent then you could atleast give the baby up for adoption, and make your life, that babies life, and the family adopting the babies life a lot happier.

I believe that when conception occurs, it is Gods will. He would not have provided you with the joys of having a baby if he did not feel that you could handle it, and he definetly would not provide you with the joys of having a baby if he thought that you had any intentions of killing it.

Many of the people that have abortions take advantage of it and use abortion as a form of birth control. I can understand that having a baby might ruin your life, or so you think, but what about the life that you are ruining when you have an abortion. In a way, it is taking away a piece of you, a piece of you that you will never be able to get back. This might sound humorous but it is not meant to be, what if the baby that you killed could have grown up to be the president of the United States, or discovered a cure for a disease that you might have when you are older? There are so many things that need to be considered.

Have you ever really thought about having a living being sucked out of you? Have you ever seen the results of an abortion? It is scary. Maybe if the results of abortion were more widly discussed then it might change the way people think and feel about the topic. Maybe if people really knew what happens to their baby, they would consider it murder too. Just think of all the lives you could change if you were more conscious about your actions.

Although Mackinaw Island is very small, it is very beautiful and has lots of exciting activities, such as bicycling, horseback riding, buggy riding, and fudge shopping. Mackinaw Island is located in the upper part of Michigan between Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. It makes a perfect place for a quick getaway. The tourist season runs from mid-May to mid-October. The Island, being only 8. miles around, looks like a small old-fashioned town.

whore back riding is something most of the natives have grown fond of. of course only the higher classes are entitled to the action since most native whores have elevated their fees since the whore back riding boom in demand since 11.

Horseback riding is very exciting and fun. They have different size horses ranging from small to big. The horse owners are very friendly. They help visitors pick out a horse based on your previous experience riding horses. The horses are healthy looking. The horses are well trained; for example they know which path to follow. They walk in a row and only on the right side of the road behind one another. Once the horse reaches designated spot in the forest they start running faster. The green trees make the forest look naturally beautiful. The horses make the ride very exciting by taking the tourists in the forest.

Another interesting activity Mackinaw Island has to offer is the horse carriage tour. First the carriage takes the tourists to horse stables where they can observe horses daily activities. Interesting facts about the horses in carriages are that they are raised together, so they get along very well, and work as a team. Then the carriage tour stops at a famous fudge stop name Blacksmith Shop. It stops there for few minutes to fudge shop. The horse buggies also make a stop to see unique houses and beautiful gardens. The houses are well designed and gardens are decorated with many different types of flowers.

Mackinaw Island has a wonderful chocolate cooking smell in the air. There are many fudge shops. In Mackinaw Island most of the shops are filled with fudge. The fudge shops have varieties of fudges, Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cherry and more. The fudge is sold at reasonably priced.

Finally, I think Mackinaw Island is small but an attractive place to visit. It has many wonderful activities such as bicycling, horseback riding, horse carriage tour and fudge shopping. At first the Island looks very crowded but once you go a little farther away from the Islands downtown area it is very beautiful and peaceful. Mackinaw Island is known for beautiful gardens and unforgettable scenery to view. The Arch Rock is one of the unique places. A huge carved hole in the rock makes it very impressive. The Butterfly House is also something phenomenal to see. Hundreds of butterflies fly in the house. The pretty colors make the butterflies very attractive. The bicycle riding activity is very different and pleasant. The bicycle path is in an excellent spot along the shoreline where tourists can enjoy the view of the lake and enjoy the natural beauty of the Island. At Mackinaw Island the horse owners are very helpful. They help tourists find horses that will suit them based on their previous experience riding horses. The well-trained horses are very gentle and they also show the forest side of the Island. Mackinaw Island is a wonderful vacation for a quick getaway. Mackinaw Island has very relaxing and enjoying atmosphere. It is a very attractive place to go. When I went to Mackinaw Island I enjoyed it very much and I recommend you to go to this place so you dont miss out on something very important.
