Drama Reflection on

"Los Vendidos" by Luis Valdez

"Los Vendidos" is a wonderful light-hearted play by Luis Valdez, which he creates using, satire, irony, and comedy. Valdez uses many of these elements to portray how Mexican Americans have struggled to find their identity in America. He uses satire to demonstrate how the American government needs the support of Mexican Americans, but does not return that support. He uses irony by using Mexican American characters throughout the play to create various stereotypes of Americans attempting to obtain what they want. Throughout the play Valdez uses a comedic air to portray the stereotypes of Mexican Americans that have been created by Americans and are in some ways expected in our American society. The comedy, satire, and irony all combine to create a wonderful drama about how Mexican Americans have struggled to find their identity.

The play begins with Ms. JIM-emez, who has denied her heritage and pretends to be ignorant to the Chicano ways while at the same time is unable to escape her own culture. Ms. Jimenez, a secretary from Governor Reagan's office, has come to Honest Sancho's Used Mexican Lot and Mexican Curio Shop to search for a token brown-skinned person who can fill a token position in the governor's office. She wants someone who will not stand out too much but will show the Governor has a brown-skinned person on his staff. She is looking for someone who is dark, but not too dark, and suave. Valdez wrote Ms. Jimenez was looking for someone who was "Beige, just the tone." This implied that this token brown-skinned staff member would be beige in politics, too, and a "yes" man to all the politicians who want him around just to make them look good! As Ms. Jimenez continued her search for a Mexican American for Governor Reagan's staff, each character sold-out both their races and their way of life.

The characters in "Los Vendidos", which means the sell-outs, sold themselves out on both the Mexican American and American way of life. In fact the Mexican American character showed great disrespect for his Mexican heritage when he said, "The problems of the Mexicans stem from one thing alone he's stupid, he is under-educated, he needs to stay in school. He needs to be ambitious and be forward looking, most important he needs to think American." With this statement, he showed some of the imperfections, flaws, and weaknesses of Mexican Americans, which I believe showed great disrespect for his heritage. He definitely cannot decide if he wants to live as a Mexican American or as an American. He is not only selling his heritage out, he is selling himself out.

This was a very enjoyable play that I would love to see portrayed on stage. In fact, having actual Mexican American characters would make it even funnier. Reading it in class with the Mexican accents and Mexican/American accents was hilarious and a wonderful technique. It really made an impression on me. It is just amazing to me how we all stereotype people without even realizing it!

Should The United States continue to Fund Central Intelligence Agency

Generally speaking, throughout the Cold War unit America made many changes. Politically America gained many enemies more than it did friends. Still today America faces much resistance from foreign countries intelligence gathering seems to be necessary. Yes, the United States should continue to fund the central intelligence agency by doing so we protect our democratic way of life, enables U.S. to react quickly on foreign trouble spots, and our country would be in massive disarray if we did not have a central intelligence agency.

The Central Intelligence Agency is a government agency, that gathers political, economic, and military information about more than 150 nations and evaluates it for other United States government agencies. This information is called intelligence, much of which is kept classified. The CIA acquires this classified information by spying on the defenses of nations hostile to the United States and preventing the efforts of foreign spies. For example, to assert Americans strength after Bay of Pigs, Kennedy looked for other ways to overthrow Castro. Using the CIAs help in a plan titled operation Mongoose, he intervened in Cuban trade, ordered more raids by exiles, even plotted Castros assisnation. As a democratic nation we have accumulated many enemies because of the way we choose to live our lives. Therefore we must have some sort of protection, intelligence, the CIA is just that.

The CIA gathers intelligence from sources other than its agents. For example like listening to the radio and television shows or the use of, technical sources of intelligence that include aircrafts and orbiting satellites with cameras. This technique was put to use when, a CIA spy plane flying over Cuba got clear photos of crews installing missiles possibly being pointed at the United States. Regular everyday citizens of our country are not fully aware of the classified situations that involve such documentation. They are therefore not capable to deal with these type of situations. If everyday citizens knew first hand what deep rooted hated some countries had for the U.S. people wouldnt know how to respond. Whereas, CIA agents dedicate their life to protectiing what the United States stands for.

With other countries taking up arms against the United States, it is only fitting that for our have a central intelligence agency. Complete choas would spread like wildfire througout the country if CIA would cease to exist. September 11,001 is a just a little example of what could happen if funding on the CIA was cut.

Yes, the government should continue to fund the Central Intelligence Agency. This agency protects our way of life as we know it. The United States would be open for attack if CIAs funding came to a close.

More and more children and students these days seem to be more preoccupied with their schoolwork than ever. With new curriculums and testing in progress we have to stop and think how much stress students are in these days. Not many people stop to think about the younger generation. The amount of homework assigned to students should be reduced.

First, the amount of homework should be reduced because children need to be children. It seems that even younger elementary children are being assigned two to three hours of homework a night. A couple years ago a ten-year-old would have twenty hours of homework and now they are stuck with hours of it. Children should be climbing amongst trees and riding their bikes until bed time. Not doing homework until eight oclock.

Secondly, students and children all need some time to them selves and a social life. They need to have time in their schedule to go out with friends or spend time with their family talking and hanging out. How are students supposed to learn how to socialize with others in the future, like in a working environment, if they never get the opportunity or time to do so? Also, students need time to them selves. To relax their mind and body. With so much homework, there isnt time for any of this anymore.

Lastly, if the amount of homework is reduced, students would be able to focus better. Two hours of homework in each subject does add up, and teachers dont realize that. How are students supposed to enjoy school or a subject, let alone stay focussed in class when theyre up until ten or eleven oclock completing homework? It has come to the point where most students dont even bother doing it anymore. If students spend an overall of two hours each night on homework they will have time for other things. Such as, extra curricular activities, clubs, and socializing, they would be a lot happier. Not to mention, they wouldnt be as frustrated or tired, so they would stay focussed more. Therefore, children and students must act and do as individuals their age are supposed to. Students need time to themselves or they will build up so much stress inside that will one day explode, causing them to react in anger or have a mental breakdown. They also need a social life they can build upon and so they feel some control in their life. When the amount of homework is reduced, students will be able to stay focussed more, theyll feel less stressful and they will be a happier and healthier person both inside and out.

Hate Speech

If you order your research paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on Hate Speech. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Hate Speech, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Hate Speech paper at affordable prices!

Hate speech, I have to say is one of the most controversial arguments when considering the fine line that we have to draw when people claim that it is their constitutional right to oppress others with their words based on their religion, nationality, gender, sexual preference, or skin tone. Since 14, where the Supreme Court ruled in favor of New Hampshire in the Chaplinksy v. New Hampshire, fighting words were considered to be outside our first amendment rights, but this was overturned in the 1 case of R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul, where a teenager burned a cross in the yard of a black family, and since then hate speech, categorized as "fighting words," has become a constitutional right

I personally think that hate speech is one of the things that we are going to have to accept, because it is entwined to other forms of derogatory statements that keep America in balance. Political satire for example, hardly ever true and often misleading, holds Americans to a shred of the fundamental political world that most would forsake altogether. Americans tend to turn a cold shoulder towards politics today due to its reputation for deceit and lies. Political satire keeps politicians on their toes, showing that they are not above the law and keeping them wary not to step out of line, because they are being watched. For these reasons political satire in my mind is fundamental in the world.

Tying political satire to hate speech, we must all recognize that the American government cannot go on a crusade to stamp out everything it considers calumnious. When it does, legislation generalizes, and hate speech's "fighting words" are applied in broader terms.

Here's an example to support my statement. "Fighting words" aren't limited to hate speech, there are other areas where people have felt offended and legislation has been applied, such as the political scene. John McCain's vendetta for campaign finance reform is a great example of the government's legislation decisions on "fighting words." Campaign finance reform has gone so far to limit "fighting words" that opposing parties cannot fund ads publishing an incumbent's voting record. THEIR VOTING RECORD! I highly criticize government legislation on hate speech and "fighting words" because it has been abused in these other situations.

What is that old proverb? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me?"

So what's a university to do when someone wishes to express a recusant view that might disparage a certain group unfairly? Print it, assuming of course it is professional, worded and organized educationally to the standards of all other articles. But if the school believes the information to be misleading and incorrect, or contrary to the beliefs of the majority, seek someone to write a contrasting article beside it, making the proper counter-points and providing another perspective for the students to choose from, deciding on their own what they think is the most logical conclusion. This is the way the mass media works in America today, providing different perspectives on news. If you don't like listening to them, obtain your news elsewhere. If you want to here a liberal spin, tune in to MSNBC, ABC, or CBS. If you want fair balanced news, tune in to FOX. It's your decision, and similarly it can be a student's decision to provide two contrasting opinions when releasing controversial information.

"Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use.

In this modern era with global competition in every field we see that there is a tendency toward specializing in ones education. A couple of decades earlier not many would have pursued post docs and now-a-days a post-doc degree seems to have become extremely common. Lot of universities have also realized the need of giving specialized education as a necessity to adapt to the ever changing needs of the modern day life. Recently due to the excessive interest and popularity of transacting on the Internet many schools came up with specialized "e-commerce" degree. Hence the first part of the statement given is apt in saying that the academic disciplines are becoming more and more specialized.

However, considering what the remaining part of the statement says, is it true that ideas of the scholars in these specialized disciplines reach only narrow audience? Is it necessary that all the people understand these ideas? Is it necessary that a idea should be widely understood in order to have greater use? Lets go ahead and dissect each of these questions to reach a consensus.

Lets consider the issue about the 'reach' for a scholar's idea. The target audience of the idea would depend on whether the scholar's idea is totally related to the field of his study or whether it is an idea which has general applications. With the communication mechanisms existing today (emails, internet, discussion groups etc) the scholar can easily make his ideas reach any target audience very easily. If he is lacking motivation or is tied up to do this, still most of the specialized disciplines interact with people from other disciplines on regular basis. For example - a Phd thesis has to be endorsed by people in that department as well as a person outside the department in most of the cases. Further the thesis has to be given to an audience which can consists of amalgamation of people from any other disciplines. All these built in mechanisms will keep a check to it that the idea reaches a wider audience. Hence it would not be too wise to think that scholars in specialized disciplines have a limited audience.

Do my essay on "Academic disciplines " CHEAP !

Further there seems to be an increasing trend to fuse two closely related specialized disciplines in most of the institutions. Different departments of most institutions are co-ordinating among themselves to have a symbiotic effect. These techniques also keep a check on narrow focus/reach that might impede the possible effect of a great idea.

It is beyond doubt that specialization does not mean narrow audience, in this modern day life. To take a practical example - People all over the world are enjoying the benefits of the search engine google.com. No one would have to know about the cryptic details of the database search algorithms involved in creation of the application. The idea of a Phd scholar in a specialized field of data mining has reached in a practical form and is being used by a person who is doing postdoctoral studies in history.

I would conclude that we need specialized academic disciplines and these disciplines should continue improving on the techniques to expose ideas in this field to wider audience.

Love and Decision Making

Love impairs decision making. This statement is one of truth although the victim of the impairment does not want to admit the fault. Obviously love holds precedence in "A Doll's House" yet when decisions have to be made, love can also cause mistakes. Love requires you to make decisions with someone else in mind, thus priority lies in fulfilling another person's happiness and dreams rather than your own. In Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House" a perfect example of love's biased opinion unfolds.

Nora, who gives the impression that she "wears the pants in the relationship (www. Allsands.com)," manipulates people and lies in order to obtain money, with her undaunted love for Torvald as her one and only justification for her crimes. The entire story leads up to an legendary discovery in the final acts of the play. According to one literary review Nora's "epiphany" is that "…throughout the last eight years of her life, she has been blind to who is in control of the marriage (www.Allsands.com)." Once Nora understands that she cannot influence Torvald as much as she had previously believed, she reaches her epiphany.

Not only does Nora risk her own integrity to assist Torvald, she also unwittingly allows him to treat her with ruthless disrespect. Torvald controls Nora's life economically, and subjects her to verbal and emotional abuse as he blames Nora's scandalous behavior on incompetence because she is a female. He also dominates her physically by initiating sexual relations even when Nora refuses his intimacy, "What's that? You're joking, my little Nora! You won't…? Am I not your husband (Ibsen 55-56)?" Torvald believes that as Nora's husband he is entitled to "have her" physically when he desires and is very surprised to discover that Nora does not share this belief.

Order Custom Essay on Love in A Doll's House

He reinforces his attitude about women by stating, "That is like a woman!" when Nora tells him of the purchases she has made and by calling her a "spendthrift (Ibsen 4)." Torvald undermines Nora once again as she states, "everything I think of seems so silly and insignificant" and he responds with "Does my little Nora acknowledge that at last (Ibsen 6)?" Yet his condescending attitude is one that Nora tolerates with absolute acceptance as Nora succumbs to Torvald's relentless control when she states , "Everything you do is quite right, Torvald (Ibsen 55)."

Each of these situations show prime examples of how Nora uses her love for Torvald to try to better her situation. Her life is completely centered around Torvald's wishes and concerns rather than achieving and maintaining a mutual relationship based on love and respect. Ibsen uses "A Doll's House" to show that seemingly "happy" marriages can be complete and utter farces, yet also shows that these relationships can be restricted and remedied when the abused person exhibits individuality and control over their own life.

The Nazis made valuable use of the time they had in parliament and became a strong party. When the Munich putsch failed in September 1, they learnt that they would have to try to gain power by lawful means. They used propaganda to gain support and also came up with a 5-point program that appealed to everyone.

Germany tried to pay the reparations by printing more money but when that failed, America gave them loans to ease the economic problems. At the time of the loans, America was financially secure but in 1 the Wall Street Crash sent America into depression causing them to recall their loans. Having to repay the money put Germany into greater financial difficulty and they had to try unpopular economic policies.

The Depression derived from the Wall Street Crash, when people rushed to sell their shares because they realized the companies were doing badly. Thousands of businesses and people were ruined. This affected Germany because America withdrew its loans and the German economy collapsed. Millions were left unemployed. The new Weimar government broke down and people were ready to listen to groups like Hitlers Nazis, who promised a strong government and a better way of life. People who had never been interested in politics before found themselves listening to extremist groups because the government had collapsed. The Depression was a tremendous piece of good luck for the Nazis, because it enabled them to get the majority of the vote in Germany (4.%).

During the Depression the German public was not so concerned with the detailed aims of the Nazis when in power. They just wanted a new government and leader who could help Germany from the great Depression.

Order Custom How did Hitler become chancellor? treaty of versailles, depression view paper

The Depression led to high unemployment because factories had closed down, and farmers and many businessmen could not sell their goods.

The reparation payment in particular caused great difficulties for the government and the people. When Germany failed to make a payment in 1, the French and Belgium army marched in and took control of the Ruhr, a key industrial area of Germany. The Germans responded with passive resistance but that again was expensive.

The Treaty of Versailles made it almost impossible for Germany to recover financially, largely because all Germany's colonies were taken and they were made to pay reparations. In order to try to pay the reparations, Germany started to print money and ended up with hyperinflation. The economic instability added to the political instability.

The Nazis cleverly delivered the idea that if they came to power there would be something for everyone. For example farmers were promised higher prices for their goods and shopkeepers were offered protection against big businesses.

The Nazis, now more organized and efficient, were ready for this opportunity to gain power and made promises of jobs and bread.

Purpose and Goals

The software development phrase was the phase used to create the user interface of the systems. The purpose of this section was to create a database that is flexible and open-ended. Using the current forms and reports that the university currently uses, the database was constructed in a way that would be easily recognizable to the staff, as well as incorporating the more current features and reports used by the university today. The ultimate goal of this phase was to reduce the amount of time spent on filing and preparing forms and reports manually and have one system that will contain all this data that will allow ease of access for creating reports and printing out forms.

This phase lasted approximately seventy one days. It started on April 1, 00 and was completed on July 8, 00.

This stage of the software development phase depended on the interviews and meeting with the university staff. This information, such as gathering existing reports, interviewing the university staff and getting the necessary forms that were used to help create the data entry screens, was an important step towards creating a user-friendly database. It was important that the university's needs and expectations were identified in order to create software that will be tailored to their needs.

Montressor remains close to Fortunato under the false pretense of friendship knowing that he was going to take his revenge on him for the insult, which had not been forgotten. Once at Montressor's house they go down to the vault to get the cask of Amontillado Montressor, while giving Fortunato more to drink, then chains the drunken Fortunato to the wall and begins to wall up the vault, allowing Fortunato to slowly gain his senses and realize the stupidity of his actions. Fortunato begins to shriek uncontrollably. Momentarily frightened, Montressor thinks to kill his enemy immediately, but, satisfied with his crime and the amount of torture it will have on Fortunato, Montressor decides simply to scream back at his enemy, and take away any of Fortunatos hope of escape with his own howls.

In both the story and the movie the characters who had been wronged take revenge on the person who wronged them. Through careful planning and infiltrating into the lives of their betrayers Montressor and Edmond Dantes get close to their enemy. After gaining the trust of Fortunato, Montressor takes his revenge in one swift blow by sealing him alive in the catacombs underneath his house. While Edmond Dantes make his revenge slow and painful to his betrayer by making him lose everything he holds dear little by little.

After reading a good book the reader's view of life's and life's complications and obligations should be clearer, at least for a time. How was your reading clarified your understand of people, institution, life and its confusion?

I believe that after reading " Dead Man Walking" I have a much clearer view of life, its complications and its obligations. It also gave me a better understanding of people and institutions. I have realized that some people are willing to help others during hard times. It showed that people actually believe in the statement " Its better to give than receive".

This book offered useful information into the system of death penalties and the people behind it. Throughout the novel, Sister Prejean recounts her experience as a spiritual adviser to three men and shows the reader the process of it. As a new reader the book offers great insight and influence to the mind. It arouses to me new information of life behind bars and the procedures that placed them there.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Dead Man Walking

Appointed spiritual advisor, Sister Helen Prejean was offered the chance to become a pen pal to one of the death row in mates. Unlike the others, Prejean had no hesitation to the offer, " I say, sure. The invitation seems to fit with my work in St. Thomas…"(Prejean ). This was very unusual, the services of a nun are known to extend not only to the reachable people, but also to those who are not just an arms reach away. A nun's job is obvious, with or without the habit and though Sister Helen did not wear hers, did not make her less of a servant.

Patrick (Pat) Sonnier, the first death row inmate to get electrocuted under Sister Helen's advisory, is stepping up to question the inside of the death sentencing procedures. The family of the deceased is expected to be bitter and resentful. "Pat had presented himself in a different way to his friend. In each one of his letters he expresses gratitude and appreciation for my care… he makes no demands… he only says how glad he is to have someone to talk with."

Due to the nature of the crime that he is convicted for, Sonniers demeanor towards the events that night should be one of temperance and cool nature. Pat is on death row, as well as his brother, for murdering a teenage couple. Though never offering apologies to the victim's families, Pat showed remorse before his execution, " No words can bring those two kids back. I've been it in my mind a million times. If I could turn back the clock…"(Prejean 4).

Through the days leading to Pat's execution, she tried all she could for appeals and in the midst of her efforts presented facts about the reason why Pat is being sentenced to death. " The crucial race factor is that his victims were white. If Pat and Eddie had killed two black kids, chances are they would never have been sentenced to death"(Prejean48). The truth of the sentence policy adds harshness to the views and ideas of fairness among races. Other cases that harm black people. " Prosecutors, judges, and juries, most of them are white, are far more outraged when white people are murdered than when black people are"(Prejean 48).

This all showed me that the families of whites murdered at hands of dangerous people find no wrongs in countries unjust judicial service. The Bourques' and the LeBlancs' merely long for an apology and justice through death.

Focus Essay

Transcendentalism

As American literature moved past its early beginnings, new literary styles began to develop, most significantly in the form of two contrasting philosophies. While Transcendentalists embraced the idea of mans inherently "good" values believing anything is possible and disagreeing with conformity, Anti-Transcendentalists saw exactly the opposite. They believed man to be a mixture of good and evil and saw life as a quest. Two American authors who express the values of Transcendentalism and Anti-Transcendentalism would be Emerson and Melville, respectively.

Do my essay on Transcendentalism CHEAP !

As a Transcendentalist, Emerson expresses non-conformity in the passage "Self-Reliance." "Whoso would be a man would be a non-conformist"(pg 5) shows the importance of society to man and how people should not be focused on 'foolish consistency' (pg 5) and being misunderstood. People should be original with one another and not focus so much on the conspiracy of society. Emerson says that consistency and conformity doesn't leave a potentially great soul, person, anything to do. As well as conformity, Transcendentalists believe that anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it. It is also about making your own destiny. For instance, in Emerson's, "Aphorisms" he states "This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it."(pg ) Emerson is clarifying to his audience that as long as you make time for your convictions and act, then no time is better than right now. Procrastination would be alien to him.

In contrast, Melville, as an Anti-Transcendentalist, deals with the concept of man's fight with evil. In the passage from "Moby Dick", Melville builds our perception of this great white whale beginning with Ishmael's introduction "With greedy ears I learned the history of that murderous monster against whom I and all others had taken our oaths of violence and revenge." (pg 1) Ishmael's description of Moby Dick makes him a supernatural evil, "… declaring Moby-Dick not only ubiquitous but immortal…that though groves of spears should be planted in his flanks, he would still swim away unharmed…" Ahab's quest is to kill this evil. Ahab's monomaniacal pursuit of Moby Dick turns into the real evil. Melville highlights the Anti-Transcendentalism philosophy that all human motives have a mixture of good and evil in the depiction of the Pequod characters in that they aren't the best of people with Ahab's insanity driving them to death.

The Transcendentalist and Anti-Transcendentalist aspects on life are very different. Emerson, the Transcendentalist, believes man controls his destiny. Melville, the Anti-Transcendentalist, believes the forces of good and evil heavily influence each man's destiny. Emerson's focus is more positive, in that man's pursuit of his destiny is in his hands and that the evil is conforming to society. Emerson's outlook is about a man following his convictions and making it reality. Melville is as strong about the importance of the will of man as Emerson, but observes more potential for evil in man. Melville is more about the greater forces that impact man. Emerson is more about the potential of man himself.

Among the first epistle to be written were the letters of Paul to the New Testament churches. Women established themselves in the genre as men realized that the form was more suitable to the female writers style. However, due to the modest qualities of the women, little was ever published (Goldsmith vii). In the eighteenth-century, epistolary peaked in Europe. Among the popular epistolary novels of this time were Lacloss Les Liaisons Dangereueses(178), Richardsons Pamela(1740) and Clarissa(1747), and Rousseaus La Nouvelle Heloise(1761)(Norwich 148). Later in the same century, Forcey says the epistolary novel could not survive as a dominant form because, in the fast changing polygot world of . . . Anglo-America, it fell victim to the same forces of seduction and betrayal that its heroines were unable to avoid(5). In the 170s, fictional letters reentered the literary arena. Creative writers spawned this interest with Michel Butors Illustrations III(17) and Bod Randalls The Fan(177)(Altman ).

Epistolary Novels

An epistolary novel is one that is written in the form of a series of letters exchanged among the characters of the story with extract? from their journals sometimes included(Norwich 148). This genre exhibits the quality in which there are two separate audiences to the letter a character of the novel and the reader. The reader is required to become his own narrator since the plot is not being directly told by the author. The author can be compare to an editor since he has control of the epistolary composition. However, he must trust that the reader will understand the meaning and the purpose behind each correspondence(Forcey ).

Epistles from the New Testament

Buy The History of Epistolary term paper

When speaking of epistles, people frequently think of Paul, the apostle of Christ and writer of many of the books in the New Testament. His God-inspired letters were written to and concerning the churches and pastors(called the Pastoral Letters) of that time period. However, the meanings of the letters written in the first-century A.D are still alive in todays Christian church. The foundation, the primary establisher of meaning in the epistles, is the life Jesus recorded in the four gospels. Paul also used the ideas of logos and ethos in the letters. Since the Holy Bible is God-inspired there is absolutely nothing that is illogical within its covers. An example of syllogism can be seen in Romans 5-4.

And we rejoice in the hope of the Glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

The authors credibilty, ethos, must be established for a successful epistle. In his Corinthians, Paul must establish his ethos since the church does not believe his claims as one of the Twelve Apostles. He writes of his pain and suffering for cause of the Cross

[I have] been exposed to death time and time again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea.( Cor 11-5)

Paul continues writing of his suffering of spreading the gospel for the remainder of the epistle. Certainly a man who has suffered this persecution and has no doubts has seen the power of God.

"Get off of me!!!" I cried in a desperate muffle as my older sister unrelentingly sat on top of me holding my nose and mouth closed to hide my desperate cries to my mom for help. This is just one of the many incidents I clearly remember from growing up with my sister Jackie. Only four years older than me, I looked up to her as some sort of idol- I loved all the things she loved and tried to imitate everything she did and believed. I would do anything for her and she definitely used this to her advantage. For example, she always made me lay in the sun with her by the pool until she got a good tan, made me come with her to drug stores, supermarkets, tanning salons, restaurants, and even got me to skip three days of middle school so she wouldn't have to endure high school troubles. Jackie was my best friend- and I never thought that would change until the day she met Enrique.

"Are you praying?" my sister inquisitively demanded in a meticulously forceful whisper while slightly nudging her right elbow into my forearm. "Yes!" I instinctively snapped back feeling extremely irritated and annoyed by her unfailing consistency to ask this same monotonous question every single Sunday while the priest sacredly broke the bread of life. I vividly recollect (quite humorously now) squeezing my eyelids shut tight over my big brown eyes almost hoping to see God in the black desolate oblivion of my chubby thirteen year old being while making what seemed like a desperate plea for help- "Dear God, please send my sister the perfect guy- the guy that she deserves, Amen." Every Sunday of my sister's last year at Klein Oak High school Jackie would always remind me to pray for her to find "Mr. Right" also informing my adolescent mind that a prayer to God is always the strongest when the priest breaks Jesus' body and blood. This simplistic prayer religiously continued until my sister left for Saint Louis University in the fall. Twelve-thirty mass with my parents now became seemingly far less interesting along with my simplistic prayer becoming far less consistent. With the power of prayer or fate- maybe a little bit both Jackie met her "perfect guy" the first year at college and recently got married in beautiful Madrid, Spain. Now that my sister has found true love and happiness our relationship has changed since she is found another best friend.

"Is he cute?" I bantered in a high pitch lull pulling the phone closer to my ear. "Well, he is sort of dorky…" Jackie hesitantly laughed further explaining that the knee high socks and the thick glasses are what drew her into him. Enrique grew up in Madrid, Spain and had never experienced that much of America. Well after a few dates they soon became a couple and after three years decided to get married. My sister getting married changed our relationship entirely.

Morally Irresponsible

The passage that I have chosen from The Great Gatsby is, to me, the most realistic and pragmatic statement made throughout the entire novel. It is found toward the end of the novel, which implies that the narrator, Nick, a formally unbiased person, has grown to understand the aristocratic society. By referring to Tom and Daisy as a prime example, Nick conveys the hollowness of the upper-class society after conversing with Tom, after the death of Gatsby, Myrtle and George.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreat back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made….(186-7)

After reading this quote, I was taken by the injustice of the situations. Despite that Daisy is the true killer of Myrtle, she lies through omission, with a free conscience, and allows for Gatsby to take the blame for her mistake and endure the consequences (in his case, death). Only a truly selfish and careless person with no heart or consideration for others is capable of a deed such as this. Rather than attending Gatsby's funeral, Tom and Daisy simply allow themselves to remove from the calamity, not only physically, but psychologically, as well. Actions of which reveal the emptiness of the two characters. The two arrogant and inconsiderate snobs just pick up their lives, no problem, to start all over again, just because they can by allowing money to ease their minds. I think that the loyal and compassionate (Gatsby) should have been the ones to live and the egotistical and the using should have been the ones to die. Their lives are like endless opportunities and they need not put any effort forth to have this. It is amazing to me that two people can live life with no morals or values at the expense of others.

Custom writing service can write essays on Great Gatsby

Tom and Daisy, typical upper-class citizens, have betrayed the American dream of working hard to enjoy life. They have disregarded the work hard aspect, and in return, they lack truth and love. At the start of her life, Daisy is in love with Gatsby and promises to wait for his return from the war, however, he true aspirations and selfishness are revealed when a solid social position comes along, Daisy jumps on the opportunity to please her parents and advance in society. Gatsby, on the other hand, has managed to try hard to achieve his success, but looses sight when he realizes his goals are shallow and empty. He dies, along with George and Myrtle Wilson, while still a step below their goals and dreams. This is an example of how false goals have changed the world so that only the morally irresponsible can survive. Although Daisy and Tom's lives have no meaning, they prevail over the valuable members of society.

People like Daisy and Tom fail to realize the reality of the statement "what goes around comes around" and although the two of them seem to be able to disregard others in concern for only themselves, they will understand that their kind of behavior will be returned, maybe not directly to them, but in some other way (perhaps via their daughter). This passage makes me want to preach to everyone to treat people the way you want to be treated. It sounds simple but it pretty much applies to everything.

The purpose is to attract the eye of audience and to make more realistic because their hoping that the audience will look at the character first but it depend on the advert. In my advert the character gives numerous impressions that she is sexy, feminine, and authoritative lady and that will attracts men by the way she look and will attracts the women because the advert is selling perfume and most of the women desire to be like her because of the image she gives and creates in the advert witch is that she can get any men she want.

Colour is one of the first think the audience notices in the advert like if you see loads of bright colours in an advert the target audience will be younger people then older. It creates an image alongside with the character for the advert to make target audience. In my perfume advert the colours were red and black, this created an image of love and feeling sexy. This will make the audience think they will have more love and feeling sexy. And in my ellesse advert the colours were Red, Orange, Blue and white. This creates an image of strong, manly and a sentiment of sporty. And this advert makes the audience consider they will more maleness.

The slogan is the catchphrase where as the brand is the name of the product. It is incredible the audience can reflect of the character and colour. In my advert the slogan is " a rose by another name" and brand name is "red" this made the audience think that the character is a rose so why couldn't they be the same. The slogan for the ellesse is the "art of sport" the audience will consider that if they want to me a sports start when it beginnings with ellese.

Trademark is the name of the company that produces the product and logo is the symbol used for the product the purpose, of trademark and the logo is for the audience to know who made the artefact the trademark and logo are tow roses so audience know the company is red many people look at the band name if they were to by something e.g. ellesse

The layout is how the text or picture arranged on the advert and the font is how the words used make the audience felt and this is another way the advert. They create image because they are of apart of adverts that is notices and works with the rest. In my advert the layout was the lady at the top and product is beneath if. Font in the advert makes the audience feel sexy.

Audience is who the product is aimed at. Is important to give to them. Adverts have different audiences; in my advert the audience was intended at young and single ladies or ladies in love or looking for love because they will consider it will help their love life.

In conclusion, I have show that in advertising people use characters, slogans, logos, copy's, trademarks, layouts, image denotations to get the attention of the audience as well as creating an image for the product. Every advert tells the audience something different and has its own style. All of those mentioned above have an effect on the reader's opinions and shopping habits.

Was Hitler's foreign policy one of the most important reasons for the outbreak of World War?

I think that without any doubt we can say that Hitler's foreign policy was one of the main reasons for the outbreak of the second world war, but his foreign policy would certainly not have been feasible if it had not been for a variety of reasons including the extremely poor outcome of the then newly formed league of nations, They were however a number of reasons that would ensure the League of Nations would fail right from the start, first and foremost was the exclusion of America and the U.S.S.R from the league, The U.S.A by choice and the Russians were simply ignored, these proved to be a huge faltering point for the league, as none of the countries actually in the league were willing to commit an army as they wanted their army for various other reasons; France wanted theirs as they were concerned about the growing threat of Adolph Hitler to the east, and Britain was more concerned about defending her empire in Asia and Australasia, and the other nations were simply to small to commit an army, so the League didn't actually have any army to threaten or "flex it's muscles" with which greatly helped Hitler among others expand their empires, which was proved by the Japanese taking Manchuria, and the Italians taking Abyssinia, and zb as the league was busy fretting over these problems, Hitler started probing Neville Chamberlains great theory of appeasement which consisted mainly giving the problem causing nation what they want in an effort to keep them quiet and happy, this technique soon proved to backfire horribly on the league of nations as this allowed Hitler to take complete advantage of his position and occupy the Rhineland, then go on to take over Austria, though this move was deemed fair by most but not officially as they agreed with Hitler that the Austrian population was greatly Germanic anyway. However Hitler was about to make one move to far which was to try and takeover Poland, and when he attempted this(successfully) Britain and France finally decided that enough was enough and declared war on Iraq. Hitler's conquest of Poland was fuelled by his somewhat crazy idea of "Lebensraum" or living space which stated that the new "Aryan" race would need extra living space and Hitler believed that Eastern Europe (Russia in the end) would solve this problem.

The people in Britain and France did not want another War after they had all been through the Great war, so Chamberlain was praised at first for his policy of appeasement, it was only when Hitler started demanding more and more that peoples minds started to change, and when he invaded Poland most people knew that war was now inevitable, so when war was declared people couldn't really blame Chamberlain because at the time they though that he was doing the right thing.

Hitler was helped by the fact that the British people sent to negotiate with him were very "tea and crumpets" in the way that they were very posh and believed Hitler when he promised he was happy with the Sudetenland and would not demand any more of Europe, looking at all of these points we can say that Hitler's foreign policy was a big factor in the outbreak of the war, but we must not forget how big a role some of these factors played.

The Pain of Loneliness

The central idea of Katherine Mansfield's "Miss Brill" is the pain of loneliness. Throughout the story, Mansfield reminds us constantly of Miss Brill's pain by letting us see life through Miss Brill's eyes, which allows us to feel pity for Miss Brill. Miss Brill sadly attempts to experience life through strangers. Mansfield creates the tone by showing readers Miss Brill's naivety of life. This brings about a sad, painful, and pitiful tone to take over the entire story. The tone of loneliness is developed by Miss Brill's attempts for warmth and companionship, her fantasizing about the life she would like to live, and her final realization of what her life truly is.

Miss Brill's loneliness and the need for warmth and companionship is obvious. In the beginning of the story she treats her fur as if it were her favorite pet. She rubs "the life into the dim little eyes." Also, when the band is playing, she feels like she is who the band is playing for, "it was like someone playing with only the family to listen." She incorporates herself as part of that "family." Miss Brill finds comfort in believing that her furs are alive, and that she is a part of all the activities around her. As a reader, knowing that the fur is not alive in any way, and that the band merely thinks of her as an old woman with nothing better to do, there is a sure feeling of pity and pain for the woman, adding to the loneliness.

Along with her longing for companionship, Miss Brill tries to live her life through complete strangers. The fact that she can't live her own life and keep to herself also impresses the tone of loneliness on the reader. Miss Brill looks forward to eavesdropping on people's conversations. She thinks they don't notice her. Sometimes she becomes hostile towards the women she listens to, like the patient Englishman's wife. She said she "wanted to shake her." Her interest in others' lives only makes the tone more clear that she is lonely and has no life of her own to live.

When more is discovered about Miss Brill's life, the more evident it is that she is lonely. When she describes the other people at the park as "odd, silent, nearly all old people, and from the way they stared they looked as though they'd just come from dark little rooms or even even cupboards!" It's obvious she is one of those very people she's describing. Then later in the story, her own room is described as a "dark room, like a cupboard." Then, the remarks of the young couple give her a little more self-awareness. At the end, "she thought she heard something crying." Which is most likely herself, but she's refusing to accept herself once again. All of these factors come together to form a stronger sense of loneliness than before when she hadn't gained any self-awareness of herself.

The tone of "Miss Brill" is the same throughout the entire story. She suffers in the beginning because she longs for warmth and companionship. Later on she becomes self-aware of some of her problems and then goes right back to denying them. The tone of the story remains consistent throughout and leaves the reader feeling pity for Miss Brill. Mansfield creates the tone through Miss Brill's thoughts, acts, and feelings.
