If hell does exist, why wouldn't ceaseless torture be fitting for such an evil environment? Heaven is an idea of endless paradise for those who have lived a morally good life and who have helped others. Those of us who have earned the torture by being morally corrupted do not deserve to enjoy the pleasantries of heaven that needed to be earned in this world by being virtuous.

One dilemma with hell is the idea of judgement. How are we being judged, what kinds of things are considered to be good enough for heaven and bad enough for hell? We all have different views on this subject depending on how we were brought up. Those of us who have a religious background feel that practicing and believing determine our fate. It is a little more complicated for those who do not believe in any particular religion. There are those who just believe they will go to hell and just don't care, there are also those who live what they believe is a morally good life and feel they will go to heaven, and also those who just don't believe in heaven or hell altogether. We all apply our different views to make opinions on current issues at hand. For example, many people believe that we do not have the right to punish murderers extensively by the death penalty or with torture because they believe that it is God's job to judge them when they arrive at the gates of heaven.

The idea that we should treat prisoners more humanely but that these same prisoners will be tortured endlessly in hell says a lot about the human mind. Since these prisoners will be punished in hell, we don't have to obtain a guilty conscience by torturing them ourselves. It is also a way of making sure that we don't go to hell for punishing them. Even though it seems like the idea of treating prisoners humanely was created for the well being of the prisoners, it seems as though it is more of a self-righteous, self-serving act. I am not a heavy believer in the idea of hell. Admittedly at times, I wish hell existed to get my revenge on those who have caused me grief. But I think that we receive our rewards and punishments in different forms during our present life. Even though many people think they could be in much better situations, I think it could be a lot worse. So it's just a matter of perception, whether you see the glass half empty or half full.

I think that this rejection of hell is an indication of moral progress because it shows the ability to act in a moral and just way without such a consequence as being tortured in the fire pits of hell. We shouldn't need an excuse to be virtuous. But for those who can't help but be immoral the idea of hell is there to give them something to ponder. Because no one really knows whether hell really exists or has just been used as a scare tactic. But whatever the truth, it is an effective idea for those with a conscience.

For the flat sales and profits in recent years, Unilever might use an expansion strategy to strengthen the Ben & Jerry's brand in the area of weakness. For instance, Unilever might sell its own Ben &Jerry's brand of cake in the United States.

The act of fate in Tess of the D'Urbervilles plays a major role in the outcomes of many relationships and lives. The first fate seen in the book is when the D'Urbeyfield's horse is killed, and Tess must work for Mrs. Durberville. The letter that Tess writes to Angel about her past doesn't reach him because of fate. Also all the D'Urbeyfield women screw up their lives because of fatalism.

The first sign of fate in the story happens to Tess. When the family horse, Prince, is killed in the collision, Tess holds herself responsible and feels guilty for the death of the horse. In order to make up for the horses death, she feels she must go to work for Mrs. Durberville. "Why, I danced and laughed only yesterday! To think that I was such a fool." (p. 4) This fate means that she ends up meeting Alec and eventually becoming pregnant from Alec. Tess accepts the fate that arises throughout the book. She doesn't try to fight it, she instead, lets it happen. This means that she could prevent things from happening if she were to not to go along with everything.

Before Tess is about to marry Angel she questions telling him everything about her past, even though her mother instructed her not to. She isn't brave enough to tell Angel, in fear of what he might think. Instead she decides to write him a letter telling him everything. She slips it underneath his door, however it goes underneath the carpet as well. Fate keeps the letter from reaching Angel and him finding out the news about Tess before they get married. This then leads to a blow up in the marriage when Tess finally tells Angel, and to their separation. "Angel, I should not have let it go on to marriage with `ee if I had not know that, after all, there was a last way out of it for you…" (p. 8) This is when Angel blows up at Tess for her past and that she hadn't told him sooner. She decides not to fight against fate and try and keep Angel; she lets whatever might happen do so.

Another example of fatalism in the story is the fate of all the D'urbeyfield women. They all have the same genetic traits about them. Tess's mother was very pretty, like Tess, however she gave it all away by marrying a poor, drunk. Tess is very beautiful, however she screws it up by getting pregnant with Alec. Fate also leads to her break up with Angel, because of her dreaded past. The D'Urbeyfield women seem to be very beautiful, but fate seems to lead them to screw up their lives.

Anthony Trollope (1815-188)

Introduction

One of the best writers of the English novel is Anthony Trollope. He was one of William Thackerays most enthusiastic admirers. Trollopes solid novels about mid-Victorian churchmen and politicians, after being almost forgotten, are once more being widley read and appreciated.

Birth and Education

Cheap Custom Essays on Anthony Trollope

Anthony Trollope was born in Bloomsbury, London in 1815 and lived a very difficult childhood. His family faced constant financial troubles.Anthony was a very large and awkward boy who felt an unhappy outcast among the young aristocrats that he met at school, therefore he kept transferring from one school to another. Attempts at University scholarships were abortive.

Career and Marriage

In the summer of 184 Anthony became an usher in a school at Brussels, then he became a junior clerk in the General Post office, London. He had seven lonely years of dingy poverty in London, making few friends and earning a reputation for insubordination, until his transfer in 1841 to Ireland, as a deputy postal surveyor, put him financially at ease and introduced him to a larger, freer, outdoor life. His awkwardness disappeared; he took up the sport of fox-hunting and married Rose Heseltine, daughter of a bank-manager.

Trollope earned a promotion to a post in Mallow, Ireland. Travels on postal missions to western England, Belfast , Donnybrook near Dublin and to Egypt, Scotland, and the West Indies. Finally he settled at Waltham Cross as surveyor general in the Post Office.

Style

Anthony Trollope treated literature as a trade and wrote by the clock. Rising at 5 0, he would write till 11, before going to work at the post office, at the rate of 1000 words per hour. No author has been more methodical. He worked out schemes, set himself time-schedules, and rigidly adhered to them.

Works

1-In Trollopes first novel, The Macdermots of Ballycloran, he set himself to search for the sources of Irish discontent, this was followed by The Kellys and the OKellys, another political novel.

-His next work was a series of six novels set in the imaginary county of Barset, the first being The Warden, in which he describes clerical life in cathedral towns. Other Barset novels include Barchester Towers, Doctor Thorne, a novel depicting the caste system of landed property-holders, Framley Parsonage and The Small House at Allington. The Last Chronicle of Barset, is the last of the Barset novels.

-Trollope then published a second series of novels, the political novels, less witty and humorous but more difficult and complex than the Barset series. The Prime Minister (1876) and The Dukes Children (1880) depicted the inner political workings of the House of Commons, the political clubs, and the social entertainments of the great political hostesses.

4-Trollopes Autobiography is published after his death in 188 along with two novels The Landleaguers and Mr. Scarboroughs Family.

Speeding Ticket

You always get the unexpected. Its extraordinary how bad situations pop out of no where. My situation is a speeding ticket that was close to ending my driving privilege. Stress that I had caused me to rush and speed didn't make me think twice of the consequences that I could be getting close to. But I had to face what was coming towards me.

It all started when I was heading to the movie theatre after picking up my girlfriend. The movie started at 0 and she had to be home by one o'clock. It took us about a solid 50 minutes to get there since she lives far away from everything. So I was thinking there would be no problem at all; we go watch the movie and then go back home from there. While watching the movie, I didn't realize how much time passed by. It was a three-hour movie. While we were walking out of the movie we checked the time and saw that we had only thirty minutes to get to her house on time.

Quickly as possible we got out of the movie theatre and into the car. The only thought running through my mind was that I have to get her home right away. There were no cars on the road, which made me want to accelerate the speed more. I was approaching a hill. After going over car lights appeared from the side of the road. Then blue lights were turned on and I slowed down, praying he wasn't coming for me. I passed a 45 speed limit sign and I didn't notice how fast I was going because all I was thinking is that my girlfriend has to be on time. My heart was beating so fast and I was so nervous I couldn't think right. Order College Papers on daniel beddingfield

The cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket. He explained that I went thirty miles per hour over the speed limit, which he could have taken my driving privilege away for a long time he said, but he didn't. He told me going that fast you could lose your life. He let us go and we were already ten minutes late. The rest of the way to her house we were going exactly with what the speed limit was. After dropping her off and speaking to her parents about what happened I couldn't stop thinking about my parent's reaction after they hear the news.

I waited till the next day to break the bad news to them. My parents told me it would cost me around four hundred dollars to take care of the ticket. That is when I started to panic. That meant I had to work more hours and days. All of this chaos for trying to be on time which wouldn't have cost me anything.

After two weeks it was all over. No more worries, money problems, or drama. I never stopped thinking about everything that could have happened. It's so crucial. We could have been hurt or even killed if I would have gotten in a wreck at the speed I was going. Always think about the situation before you dig a deeper hole than what you already have. One more thing, its always better to be late than sorry.

Where does the impetus for law reform come from

and which bodies could reform the law?

In order for a legal system to succeed it can not be static. As the institutions of society are always changing, the legal procedures and the law itself need to adjust to these changes to maintain the respect and support of the public.

There are many institutions which contribute to law reform such as The Judges, parliament, pressure groups, and public opinion. However, responsibility for the law is so diverse that there is no single body that is liable for the responsibility for reform, e.g. The Home Secretary is but it was not until 11 that the Court of Appeal and then the House of Lords made this law occur. Time

Can you ever image not worrying about time? I could not. I live off time, everything I do is based on time such as my work and school schedule. I work and study a total of 10 hours. Some other parts of the world dont use time as we do in the United States, such as some parts of Africa. Europeans lifestyles depend neatly on time, unlike countries like Africa. Africans in Africa at most time do not take time seriously. In Africa they dont use time, if something happens its because it was meant to happen. The Europeans and Africans have different sense of time.

In the European worldview, time exists outside man, exists objectively, and has measurable and linear characteristics (16). The European feels himself to be times slave, dependent on it, subject to it (16). Europeans use time daily such as work and school schedule and when we go to the doctors, we have a set time for the appointment.

To exist and function he must observe its ironclad, inviolate laws, its inflexible principles and rules. He must heed deadlines, dates, days, and hours. He moves within the rigors of time and cannot exist outside them. They impose upon him their requirements and quotas. An unresolved conflict exists between man and time, and that always end with mans defeat time annihilates him (16).

Write your Time research paper

We Europeans depend on time. When we tell someone Ill pick you up in a half a hour, or meet you in two hours at Dennys for dinner, we expect them to be there and on time. We base our days on time. We always look at clocks making sure what time it is, just in case we run late.

On the other hand, Africans have a totally different sense of time then Europeans. Africans apprehend time differently (16). For them, it is a much looser concept, more open, elastic, subjective (16). Africans time is more of an easy going attitude, but they are not lazy. It is man who influence time, its shape, course, and rhythm (man acting, of course, with the consent of gods and ancestors) (16). For Africans time is different, they dont depend on time like Europeans. When something happens in Africa its because it was meet to happen. Not because there was a set time for it to happen. Time is even somethings that man can create outright, for time is made manifest through events, and whether an event takes place or not depends, after all, on man alone (16). Africans dont base there days on time. When Africans go to work if they are late, it does not matter as long as they get there work done. Africans work very hard to get there jobs done, but they just dont worry about the exact time as the Europeans.

Time appear as a result of our actions, and vanishes when we neglect to ignore it (17). How do you think the Europeans would react of they had to live like the Africans, I personally would be lost, I base my whole day on time, I wish there was more than 4 hours in a day. The Europeans and Africans have a different sense of time. They both have there own beliefs of time.

The Letter from Birmingham Jail, Dr. Martin Luther King used reason and feeling to appeal black and white clergymen.

Dr. King used logos, a quality that appeals to a one?s logic or reason, to persuade the clergymen by pointing out that

§ He was in Birmingham, Alabama because he was invited and because injustice was in the city, which needed to be terminated. (pgs. 7-8)

§ In his opinion, there were two types of laws, just and unjust. The unjust laws in Birmingham were the segregation laws because they are ?morally wrong and sinful.? (pgs. 101-10)

§ All of the immoral acts that Hitler carried out were considered legal and these were unjust laws. Supporting the victims of these legal actions were against the law, and these laws were also unjust. (pg. 10)

§ It is unreasonable to reprimand Negroes for the peaceful protests because they apparently lead to violence. This charge is similar to punishing a victim of a robbery because the individual had belongings the

robber wanted. This would accuse the robbed of inviting violence. (pg. 104)

§ The clergymen praised the Birmingham police department for avoiding violence, but in all actuality, they were the ones utilizing violent measures, by treating Blacks mercilessly, while protesting peacefully. (pgs. 10-110)

In addition to logos, Dr. King used pathos, a feature that moves one to pity or sorrow, by stating that

§ Birmingham is the most segregated city in the country and it has one of the highest rate of police brutality and undeserved treatment of Negroes. (pg. 8)

§ When Negro leaders tried to negotiate with city leaders, these leaders broke promises and disregarded the African Americans. These individuals felt that they no choice but to employ direct action.

(pg. )

§ When individuals told the Negroes to hold off on their plans for direct action, they had no idea of the struggle Blacks went through. These individuals, mostly white, would not have said wait if they had seen their mothers and fathers get beaten by the police, or their little sisters and brothers get bitten by dogs, or their grandparents being drowned by powerful hoses. (pgs. 100-101)

§ The church was not in the state that it used to be. The church has rejected its African American members and did not support their efforts to strive for equal rights. The church was a supporter of the status quo, and not an advocate for change or justice. (pgs. 107-10)

§ Some of the ministers, black and white, who assisted with the struggle for justice ended up in jail, kicked out of their churches and lost the support of their religious community, including the clergy leaders.

(pg. 10)

Dr. King used logos and pathos in response to the clergymen?s letter that addressed the protests of African Americans in Birmingham, Alabama.

Susan was arrested and indicted on Thanksgiving Day, 187, for having knowingly voted without having a lawful right to vote. At her trial, the judge penned his decision before hearing the case and discharged the jury because he maintained that there were no questions for him to consider. He found her guilty for voting illegally and fined her $100.

All in all, Susan B. Anthony was a great woman. She was a womens rights campaigner, a suffragist, and was against slavery. She even at one time had her own newspaper! She did many important things, but one of the greatest was to help grant women suffrage. Because of women like Susan, women now have the right to vote! The Susan B. Anthony House was the home of the legendary American civil rights leader during the most politically active period of her life, and the site of her famous arrest for voting in 187. Susan B. Anthonys story of courage and determination has been told and re-told to visitors to her Rochester, New York home on Madison Street for more than fifty years.

Because of Aunt Susans love for women and perseverance in her cause, I have today the enjoyment of a great many more rights and privileges than my

mother had twenty-five years ago. And seventy years ago-when Aunt Susan herself was young, there were no such things as womans rights; all the rights were

woman what she might or might not do, and what was or was not her place.

Have you ever been some place that changed your life forever? Some place that maybe was meant for you to see and observe? I can still recall the date, June 10, 00. Entering the Mayo Clinic, I could smell the alcohol stench hit me like a brick wall. It stopped me in my dead in my tracks. As I rotated my stiff neck around viewing the newly remodeled ceiling and professionally painted pictures of patients being cured of deadly cancers and diseases, I quickly remembered why I was here; to help my cousin Blair fight her battle with Non- Hochkins Lymphoma, a cancer that was fiercely fighting to take over her lymph nodes and soon her life. I quickly, but gently grabbed Blair's fragile, cold, and badly poked hand from needles, and gave her a reassuring smile that she could beat this horrible cancer.

Sitting patiently in the tightly packed waiting room, on the third floor, in the cancer center, time seemed to drag on. Being nervous from what I was going to hear from Blair's doctor, the small wooden chair didn't seem to help take my mind off of my worries and concerns. As I was trying to learn more about this deadly cancer and Blair's chances of beating this horrible thing that tore our family up, my train of thought was quickly shattered when over the clear loud speaker, "Blair Vanderhof to the front desk please," rang out over the waiting where people sat like zombies waiting to find out if their loved one would be with them for years to come. Walking through the big, brown door, that behind it, held my dearest cousin's destiny, I couldn't help but take one look over my trembling shoulder at the people that waiting to find their own destiny out. I quickly asked God to be with each person in the Mayo Clinic today, because I knew how bad it hurt to not know what the future held for your loved one.

As we entered the doctor's neatly cleaned and organized office, my stomach suddenly felt like a bunch of tight knots with people pulling on the ends of the ropes. The doctor greeted us with a firm handshake that about tore my lifeless arm out of the socket. After gently shutting the heavy door behind us, the doctor offered us some refreshments. I couldn't dare eat or drink anything. My tongue felt as rough as sandpaper from the inadequate supply of liquids. Pouring himself a cup of coffee, I quickly knew the doctor had some serious information to talk to us about. I quickly said another short, but sweet prayer asking God to guide and help all of us in this crowded and scary room this morning.

The Comparison

In both poems the females suffer because of the seduction in The Seduction she is seduced by a man when she is drunk an he takes advantage of her. In Cousin Kate she is seduced by a Lord because she is tempted by his money.

The blame is not put on the man in question in either of the poems. In The Seduction she blames herself by what had happend an other would look at her in disgust when no one blames the man in question. In Cousin Kate the Lord is not blamed for what he had done Christina blames herself for falling for his money an land then she says My fair-haired son, my shame, my pride, Cling closer, closer yet which suggests the Lord has abandoned her with his child but she still loves the child.

In both poems the women are the victims they have trust in the men an a inocent nature an because of that they both suffer from it because the men take advantage of it.

Buy cheap comarison term paper

The reactions of other people in both poems are unfair such as in The Seduction she would be judged by her neighbours, they would talk about her. In Cousin Kate Christinas neighbours call her an outcast which is also unfair an i dont agree with it because she is a victim to seduction it should be the man who is to be blamed.

In Cousin Kate Christinas child brings joy to the bad things that happend which is good but in the Seduction the child brings guilt and unhappyness because she is to young an is not ready for a child, she wanted a man to be there for her.

The men in both poems do not take responsibility for there actions in The Seduction the man runs away from what has happend an never sees her again. In Cousin Kate the the man (The Lord) refuses to have anything to do with Christina because he is with Christinas cousin called Kate.

Both poems are love poems but are unromantic there about the downside of love. In the Seduction the place which is next to the Mersy river an its dark an gloomy an the atmosphere is very unromantic and upseting. In Cousin Kate it is also unromantic because of what happends which is similer its not a very nice setting its unromantic.

Both poems are personal stories with a point to make. The Seduction makes a point by showing how the media fool or take advantage of young people by selling magazines saying how life should be when to everyones life is the same.

I think both give good examples of what could happen to people in that situation an can help young people to understand and make the right choice an not be victims themselfs. I agree with the points made there good examples to other people. I feel more sympathy for the younger girl in The Seduction because she is alot younger an has not had chance to have alot of fun an now she will be stuck with a child that she doesnt want an doesnt know what to do thats why i feel more sympathy for her.

Although many people say that holidays honor people or events, in my opinion that is totally wrong because Saturdays and Sundays are also treated as holidays which do not honor either. However, if have a chance to create a new holiday, one of the greatest women and the symbol of peace, Mother Teresa would it honor. I am an Indian. Not only me but also every Indian soul around the world should know how she sacrificed here life to help the indigenous people especially in India. I want to take a remembrance of her once again by illustrating the good work done by her to the poor and the leprosy people.

To begin with, mother Teresa, whose real name was Agnes Gonxah bojaxhiu was born on august 7th, 110. When she was in elementary studies she made her mind to help the poor and unhealthy people during vacation. After she made her choice as India to help the poor. She was trained as a nun and took her initial vows in Culcatta. Although, she had no funds she used to teach the poor children and devote herself to help the hapless citizens. Soon she joined voluntary workers in a church and started her work with some smaller funds. Attracted by her work the municipal authorities gave her permission to start her own Missionary of charities, whose primary aim is to love and help the homeless people. To honor her works, she was received several awards including the greatest Noble award for peace.

Even though India loves her forever, the government didnt give any holiday to honor her. So I will allow people to celebrate her birthday, august 7th as Mother Teresa Day. On that day every citizen should work among the poor and help the unhealthy and recollect her good work and try to attempt her ideas real even though she is not alive.

I watched the movie Speed. The two main contexts that came into play were good vs. bad and man vs. time. The good vs. bad is Keanu Reeves character Jack; the cop against Dennis Hoppers character a man who wants a large amount of money that he feels is owed to him and is putting bombs in places and blowing things up so he can get his money.

The man vs. time conflict is also part of the good vs. bad, the good; a Jack is racing the clock that Hopper's character had set to get the people out of the elevator before Hopper's character blows the emergency brake and the elevator full of people plummets thirty floors to the ground. But the challenge is that Hopper's character knows that the police are there and might try and get the people out of the elevator. So the cops are racing against a clock that they have no idea when the time will be up. Jack figures that Hoppers character will jump the gun and blow the emergency break any ways. So he attaches a crane to the elevator just in time as Hopper's character hears this from his hiding place and detonates the bomb, but Jack's quick thinking keeps the elevator from falling all the way at once and they are able to save the people in the elevator.

The next major thing that happens is that Jack is getting coffee and a bus blows up. A phone starts to ring and Jack answers it, it turns out to be the bomber, who they thought was dead. He tells Jack that there is a bomb on a city bus that will be armed when the bus goes over 50 MPH and then if it goes below50 MPH it will detonate. Jack has to race and find the bus and hope that it hasnt gone over 50 MPH. When he finds it he trys to tell the driver that there is a bomb on the bus. While unsuccessful at keeping them below 50 Jack has to get on the bus and figure out how to get the people off of the bus without

Hopper's character finding out because he said no one can get off or he will blow it up. The bad thing is that the TV. companies are broadcasting what is happening on television so the bomber can see what they are going to happen, he also has a camera on the bus so he can see what is happening on the bus. Jack is racing against time to get the people off of the bus. They figure to use a closed- circuit feed and loop a tape so that the bomber thinks that they arent doing anything on the bus when they are all really trying to get off the bus. In the end he figures out that they were getting people off the bus and blows it up but thankfully they were all off safely. The conflict of good vs. bad is resolved when Jack and the Bomber are face to face on the subway and are fighting it out. Good vs. Bad. They fight and eventually the bad looses out and dies and then both conflicts of good vs. bad and man vs. time are resolved.

Upper Schools continue to use certain text so many years after they were first written as they for many important reasons. The text may be in extreme relevance to our lives and a great way to learn about other societies and great morals and values. The text may also be of a high interest to students or simply a good example of how an excellent literary text is constructed. A classic example of a text that has been included as an upper school text so many years after if has been written is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

To Kill A Mocking bird is about life in the eyes of Scout Finch. A young girl growing up in a society filled with racial and social prejudice and injustices, while her father, a hardworking tolerant lawyer defends a black man wrongly accused of the rape of a white girl.

A reason why this text has endured so many years is because of its close relevance to our lives today. Racial and social prejudice and injustices are both strongly brought out issues in To Kill A Mocking Bird. The majority of Maycomb judge people on their social status or colour, even if it means sending an innocent man to jail. "Cry about the hell white people give coloured folks, without even stopping to think that they're people to." Pg . These issues of prejudice and injustices are so relevant to our lives as they are ongoing issues that we in today's society still deal with yet never seem to get resolved. By including this text for so many years it can help students strive for the personal integrity Atticus shows throughout the novel whilst dealing with these relevant issues.

To Kill a Mocking Bird has also lasted as a Upper school text due to the values and morals it promotes to the reader. We see for example that Atticus prefers to use reason rather than violence. "You just hold your head high and keep those fists down, no matter what anybody says to you, don't you let 'em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change." Pg 84. Continuously throughout the novel we are exposed to high morals and values teaching us and leading us to a great way to live, and good morals and values to live by, hence being an excellent literary text for students to study.

High America

America, the country of the free or so they say. Even though American citizens are supposedly free, there are certain restrictions governing our everyday lives. The government establishes laws that citizens must obey or suffer the penalties if they disobey. For instance an American can drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes if he is of the legal age. If a person smokes marijuana and is caught by the law, he must suffer the consequences for his actions. Marijuana is not nearly as harmful as the government displays it to be. If a person wants to use ganja in the comfort of their own home, they should have the freedom to do so. The U.S. government should decriminalize the use of marijuana.

Pot has many helpful medicinal uses. It is nearly a complete cure for glaucoma. Weed also helps elderly people deal with the severe pain of arthritis. If doctors want to prescribe their patients marijuana, they should be able to do so. It is a great medicine for cancer patients because bud induces an appetite for patients in chemotherapy allowing them to stay healthy.

Legalizing marijuana would also help the government. The government could control all distribution of reefer. Instead of spending millions of dollars on fighting weed the government could make money off of the distribution of the substance. This would allow more money for the pursuit of hard core drugs such as cocaine and crack.

Custom Essays on High America

Herring

Weed legalization would help put hard core drugs off the streets. Police enforcement could strictly concentrate on harmful drugs such as crack and heroin. Decriminalizing weed would take money out of the hands of drug dealers and put money into the government.

The government projects marijuana to be a horrific substance when in reality it is not that bad. Marijuana is a plant just like tobacco. Ganja contains fewer chemicals than cigarettes and is extremely less addictive than nicotine. It is yet to cause lung cancer because no one has smoked enough to get cancer. Users of marijuana smoke a lot less than cigarette smokers. How many people have heard of someone dying from weed? Yet how many people die a year from smoking tobacco. It does not make sense that the government legalizes tobacco and not marijuana. Being under the influence of weed is more subtle than being drunk, but alcohol is legal. The government needs to grow up and analyze the pros and cons of pot and realize it is not as bad as they think.

If America is truly a country of the free than we need to act like it. Politicians need to realize the multiple benefits that the government would reap if they legalized marijuana. Legalizing marijuana is a sound decision and one I support.

The fight for women's suffrage, or voting, went on for about seventy years. The fight first officially started in 1848 with the first women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York. This was the start of a long, complicated battle.

The woman's rights issue was actually first motivated by another cause, anti-slavery. There were meetings that women weren't allowed to vote in. At the World's Anti-slavery Convention, women weren't allowed in. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, later suffrage leaders, were two of the women who were excluded admittance.

It was 1848, and Stanton and Mott were starting their journey on the road to suffrage with the first women's rights convention. The women at the convention made up a list of complaints to show that for years men have been dominant over women. This became the first public protest for women's rights in America, "The Declaration of Sentiments."

Many people opposed to the idea of women's rights. Men, of course, being the majority of it. They thought that women weren't as smart. They thought they could represent women better than women themselves. There were also women who thought that women in politics would be the end of family life.

Buy cheap Women's Suffrage term paper

In May 186, two women's suffrage organizations formed. The first was the National omen's Suffrage Organization formed by Stanton and Anthony. This group was the more radical of the two, their goal being to have an amendment ratified for women's suffrage. The other was the American Women's Suffrage Organization, the conservative one. Their goal was to get individual states to grant women the right to vote. Later, in 180, the two joined together to make the National American Women's Suffrage Organization.

For over fifty years, these women were determined to win voting rights. So determined in fact, that in 187, Susan B. Anthony and 50 other women went to register to vote in the presidential election. They were refused at first, but demanded to be able to register. Fifteen women along with the inspectors who allowed them to register were arrested and tried with a $500 bail.

The unwavering determination of these women was starting to wear down the all-male government. First came Wyoming in 186. The next was Utah in 1870 and then Colorado in 18. The boundaries of women were expanding. By 11, 7 states gave women full or partial suffrage. In 118, the suffrage amendment, which was proposed in 1878 but left unchanged, was defeated and then a year later. But in 10, the women's suffrage amendment was finally ratified.

After a very long battle, the women's struggle paid off. Their long-awaited goal was granted. This was official with the nineteenth amendment. After suffrage was granted, women continued working on women's rights.

In the early days of June on 186, one of the first cars rolled out of the assembly line, and this horseless carriage became known as the Quadricycle. This vehicle was "high, black polished, also slab sided, with a little covered balcony projecting from the front to hold a driver and a mate."(Lacey 47) This car was probably the best car at that time because it could hold three gallons of fuel which was inexpensive. Initially the car had problems with the steering mechanism and its weak frame; however, Henry Ford would come up with new ideas to fix the problems. After he remedied all of these set-backs, Ford "was ready to venture eight miles out to Dearborn."(Lacey 44) The Prince of Wales was so captivated by this marvelous machine that he had to have one. The King felt that this model in its traditional form "could only be afforded by the elite."(Lacey 4) Henry Ford's vehicle was not particularly fast; it could reach a top speed of twenty-five miles per hour over the crude roads of the time. The reason it was able to reach this speed was that it did not weigh more than 500 pounds.

After a few years, Henry Ford produced the most famous car in automobile history, and that was the "Model T" which saw its first circulation in March of 108. Many of the plant workers could not believe the innovations in its construction."(Nevins 87) "The body itself was lifted off the ground and the design gave it a form of toughness."(Nevins 87) It was powered by a four cylinder engine that produced a meager 0 horsepower output when compared to current automobile. It carried a fuel tank that could hold 17 gallons of fuel; this allowed a driver to travel longer distances before needing refueling. The car's transmission, "a primitive sort of automatic gear," worked with a system featuring three foot pedals. (Lacey ) When this vehicle was made available to the consumers, it was hard to keep up with the demand. By the end of September of 108, 10,000 cars had been sold, and that set a record in sales in the amount of million dollars which was a 60% increase in previous sales. Consumers could buy cheaper models, but Ford's cars were more reliable. Because major parts of his car were completely enclosed, the car faired better "against rain, dust, and rust". (Lacey 101) Production figures rose to an all-time high during 111-1; Highland Park rolled out 78,440 Model T's from assembly lines manned by 6,86 workers. The popularity led to increased production the following year and employment numbers also saw an increase. This momentous time in automobile history was what produced the moving assembly line that propelled Henry Ford to the forefront and "admitted him to a magical new world" (Lacey 10)

Biological factors can affects the continuity of personality because of chemical changes in the brain, causing one to express themselves differently than that person did previous to these changes. Biological factors can keep ones personality the same because ones biological makeup is permenant for the most part, and if you are physically healthy then your personality is less likely to change. A person with Bipolar Disorder is a good example of how ones personality can change due to chemicals in the brain- one moment such a person could be happy and talking to their family and the next they can be furious for no reason and throw a fit. Learning factors can affect your personality because one could come to realize that certain behaviors and outlets of one personality are inappropriate, such as a child who has expressed themselves throughout their childhood by physically hurting others could be taught that such behavior is wrong and thus stop, helping that child to change their personality. Learning can bring about continuity in ones personality by reenforcing personality traits. For example, a child that is very studious and always does their work is susecptable to becoming listless with school unless they are rewarded for good work. If a reward is given, the behavior and the personality trait is reinforced and the child continues to be good in school. Situational factors can affect change in ones personality because if a person is in a situation, say a school setting, that forces them to be very aggressive because of the hostile environment, their personality will actually become hostile affter a time. however, if taken out of that environment and put in a calmer, more nuturing environment, the person would eventually realize that it isnt necessary to be so aggresive and would calm down. Situational factors can affect a person conversely because consistancy in environment can promote consistancy in personality and behavior.

Two factors that could affect the ability to overcome shyness would be learning and situational. Learning, because one could be taught to be more outgoing and that being outgoing is not a bad thing. They could also be made a aware of the good things that could come out of being a more outgoing person. Situational factors can affect whether a person is shy because if a person is in an abusive home, for instance, they may become very shy because they are afraid of speaking up. However, a change in that home, being taken out of the abusive home and put in a loving one, could help the person to come out of their shell and reallize that there is nothing to be afraid of and that they can speak up for themselves without being afriang theyll get hurt.

The dynamics of a particular father daughter relationship are explored through the media of black and white film in Su Friedrich's Sink or Swim. The piece consists almost entirely of short narratives of scenes starting from her early childhood on up through her adult life. Interwoven are breaks from the autobiography to the biography of the father's childhood. The entire dialog is a voice over which emphasizes the biographical nature of the piece. An interesting break in this was when the narrative was taken over by the typewriter in which a letter is being written to the father.

The story begins with the exploration of the daughter's childhood experiences and her oblivion to the family problems that would later be presented to us. This is most exemplified by the narrative retelling a story where the mother had her two daughters on the roof and was threatening the father with their suicide if he didn't come back to them. The daughter felt the urge to wave hello to her father, but was confused as to why her mother stopped her from waving. As the daughter grows older the story follows the relationships of the family as it splits apart and shows various reasons as to why. The daughter takes the burden to herself and internalizes the problems as if it she were the reason her father left.

After their separation and the father's remarriage the daughter gets an opportunity to spend time together exclusively on a trip to Mexico. The trip to Mexico shows how both father and daughter perceive the same events in drastically different ways. The evolving dynamics of the personal relationship between the father and daughter is a consistent theme thought the work as she grows older and the story progresses. This aspect culminates in the self-reflection of seeing herself with her father in the relationship of her father and his new daughter with his last wife.

The very flowing, grainy imagery stands out to me as a good correlation with the memory of a young child and the progression through life. The opposite being the static, sharp focused typewriter near the end when the narrative stops and is taken over by the adult daughter writing a letter to her absent father. Another aspect of the film that stands out to me is the connection of the title, the stories revolving around water, and the father's loss of a sister by drowning. I think the symbolism of crossing the lake as a physical metaphor for a way to more completely understand her father was very well done. Despite the fact she didn't make it across we still get a sense of acceptance and almost closer both from the calmness in her voice when talking about it and the fact that she seemed to overcome her fear of the water moccasins.

The paper that I chose to write about is Euthanasia. I did a group presentation on Euthanasia and I still did not know if I agree with it or disagree with it. In this paper I am going to give a little bit of information on euthanasia, give the pros and cons to euthanasia and try to decide whether I feel that it is right or wrong.

Euthanasia is the "act or practice of ending the life of an individual suffering from a terminal illness or an incurable condition, as by lethal injection or the suspension of extraordinary medical treatment. Even though euthanasia may bring forward the time of death, euthanasia is not the administrating of pain reliving treatment. There are two types of euthanasia; they are active and passive euthanasia. Active euthanasia is that death is the intended outcome. Passive euthanasia is when the doctor decides what is best for the patient. Active euthanasia the doctor would introduce a killing agent. For example the doctor would inject some type of killing agent into the patient or a pistol shot to the head. Passive euthanasia is when the doctor refuses to give the patient treatment for their illness. An example of this would be taking away a respirator or refusing to put a patient on a respirator. In December of 10 Dr. Jack Kevorkian came into importance when he euthanasized Janet Adkins by allowing her to inject lethal drugs into her body at any time. Dr. Kevorkian has since been the reason of more than forty deaths.

Some pros to euthanasia are

Because euthanasia does not relieve the pain and suffering of the dying patient there are other alternatives besides killing yourself to help relieve the pain. Many who are dying think that there are only two ways of dying die slowly and suffer all the pain or euthanasia. So many patients feel that they have no other option; they feel vulnerable and decide to go with euthanasia. There is another way which is to receive compassionate care. This type of care is called Palliative care which is care given to patients during the final stages of his or her life. This palliative care is meant to meet the needs of the dying patient. Palliative care is given by nurse practitioners, palliative care physicians, volunteers, chaplains, family members and many others. The goal of palliative care is to make the patient as comfortable as possible, which includes managing pain, vomiting, fatigue and much more. Another goal is to relieve the patient of any unnecessary medicine that they may be taking, and to provide support for the patient. Although some pain and suffering cannot be curable, palliative care provided alternatives to help deal with this pain and suffering.

Watching the film Dumbo on a 16-millimeter film projector gave me a different viewing experience than one that I am typically used to. It was not at all like watching Dumbo on DVD. Viewing the film on this type of projector made me feel as though we were in the 140's watching the film for the first time. The added newsreel, which was shown in the beginning of the film, also helped to enhance the experience, as these were often shown before the pictures in the 140's. Hearing the clicking of the projector in the background created an ambience that was much different than what I am accustomed to.

The film was projected onto the screen and as a result, the picture as a whole appeared to be sort of jumpy and jerky. It was very different from watching a film on your television at home, or even from watching a film in the movie theater. In present theaters, the picture is much smoother and not as shaky as it was on the 16-millimeter film projector. Also, the picture appeared to look much different than if you were to watch the video or DVD version of the film. This was as the picture was on a reel of film that ran through the projector and was then projected onto the screen. The colors did not seem to be as bright, and the sounds seemed to be kind of harsh and loud. This was primarily because Dumbo was one of Disney's first animated feature films.

Watching the film on this projector truly made the viewing experience different, but it was definitely a positive change. In comparing the two completely different methods of viewing films, it is amazing to see how far we have progressed from the past years. If filmmakers from the past were told that in the future the public would be watching films that were contained on discs smaller than records, they probably would not have believed it. However, although the 16-millimeter projector may seem to us to be a way of the past, it is actually remarkable to think how much this type of projector helped us to get where we are currently, in terms of viewing films. Technology would not be where it was today if it was not helped along by techniques developed in the earlier periods of film history.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Dumbo on the 16-millimeter film projector. It was an experience that was special for me, as I do not think I have ever watched a film on this type of projector before. It helped me to appreciate film history and how far it has come in the past century. Also, it was fun to know that I was watching a film that was made in the 140's the way the audience in the 140's would have actually watched the film.&

My uncle has been there for me since the day that I came into the world. He's been there for me and my family through thick and thin and has been there for me when I was going through some troubles either with my family, school, friends, etc. I would say I'm closer to my uncle then the rest of my family because he listens to what I say, never buts in to have his say he just sits there listens carefully and when I'm finished of what I have to say then he tells me what he thinks and what he could do to help. My parents are somewhat different. I mean they know what I am going through but they don't understand my needs and the way I act. They always say no and give me explanations that I just don't understand and other times they don't give me an explanation at all just no and that's it.

I can tell that my Uncle Jay loves my mom, and that my mom loves my uncle. Who wouldn't? They've been through so much together with the death of both parents (my grandparents) at very young ages, my mom marrying a Jewish man (they were catholic) smoking, etc. They've been through so much and they get closer and closer. Uncle Jay didn't accept that my mom married a Jewish man and changed her religion but soon after he just let it go and learned to accept it. My mom's dad died at 5 because he was an alcoholic and never lived to see my mom's wedding, and my uncle didn't want to walk her down either so my dad's brother or father (I can't remember) had to walk her down the aisle which was very sad. Soon after my mom's mother died of Lung Cancer (I remember it like it was yesterday) it was very upsetting. Even though we live far away from our family, we still make time to visit or talk to them every once in awhile which I love.

My uncle is a priest which is really cool. He does so much to give back to the community and I respect him for that. A couple years ago my uncle was very depressed (we have a history of depression in our family) and he was sent to this psychiatric hospital where we went to see him. He looked fine but that hospital scared me with all those people there. I thought "Jay, why are you here? You shouldn't be here you should be back home and continue working!" But I just kept my mouth shut. I didn't want to upset him more. I had no idea what was wrong but I only know that he didn't feel right with what he's doing. Now he's happier then before, he was pale now he goes to tanning beds which make him look great and he looks more alive now and much younger than before.

Write my Essay on My Uncle Jay for me

I am so great full that he is my uncle; I wouldn't trade him for the world. As I said before he's been with my family through thick and thin, he's been a devoted brother to my mom, and he's very considerate by giving back to the community. I love him so much.
