Last night six asylum seekers broke out of Villawood Detention Centre, leaving the centre in flames and a security guard hospitalized.


The six escapees, four Nigerians and two Afghani’s, were believed to have escaped by cutting a hole in the perimeter fence shortly after setting a bed on fire in one of the rooms.


In their attempts to escape, they encountered a security guard who tried to stop the asylum seekers from escaping, but was bashed and left unconscious in hospital with a broken arm and serious injuries to the head. But other guards were able to stop 1 other detainees from escaping.
